Walbro fuel pump life span?
Does walbro high flow fuel pumps usually have short life span? lately my fuel pump would suddenly stop working and after awhile, it will back work again? maybe just wiring problem? but my car was idling and not moving.....

Haven't seen it happen on 240's but on other cars it sucks so much juice it fries the stock wiring.

i have seen a walbro crap out after about, let's say, 100 miles, or about 5-6 drift events. the car was always run with about 1/4 tank of gas. wasn't my car, was some boro drift car of a friend's.

if your constantly driving your car with a 1/2 tank or less, your fuel pump will eventually crap out on you for lack of cooling.

You can purchase a fuel cooler from SummitRacing or JEG's if you're really concerned about keeping your fuel pump for a long time. They're only $80 though.

5 years and it still works.
Most people on s-chassis use a 15A fuse or run wires straight from the battery to the pump with inline fuses. I use a 15A fuse, and so does/did crazy drag racer Hugh, no problems. |

from what i understand, Walbros like to seize up under heavy throttle/low fuel conditions.
So keep it above a 1/4 tank if you wanna drive hard!

ok...i pull out the fuel pump and found the filter was all black. So i look into the tank with flash light....
i saw a lot of black praticles, kinda like sands, resting on the floor of the fuel tank. they are solid but would smear like carbon deposit over my hand. I guess thats why my fuel pump died within 1.5 year. BUT how the hell those deposit gets into my fuel tank? ![]() |

there is a reason that the pump has a sock on it and you have a fuel filter under your hood. the gas isnt guaranteed to be 100% clean out of the pump

could it have possibly been the inner coating within the gas tank itself that has just corroded over time in addition to many meetings at the fuel pump?? I notice my friend went and one-off his refuel line into his tank and tossed in a very large fuel filter inline before reaching the tank. I have not gone to check to see if this results in any cleaner gas, but it sure is a bitch to refuel that thing. Fuel no longer flows like normal. It's a pump and watch it drain deal. Bah! oh well for cleaner engines I'd do it.
