S14 Automatic Power Button!?

Greetings

I recently got an '96 S14 Automatic (SR20DE), and noticed that there are two buttons near the gear lever. One is "Power" and the other "Snow". I guess that the Snow option is for added traction, but what exactly is the Power option for, and what does it do?

BTW, this car is loads of fun

US cars didn't come with that...you may not get too many informed replies here.

All we have is overdrive on/off.

But I would assume that it's like any other electronically controlled tranmission - Whe you hit the power button, it limits the torque converter slipage, and increases the line pressure (firmer, faster shifts).

Welcome to Zilvia! The power button will make the car shift at higher RPMs. This gives you more power, but wastes more gas. My GF used to always bitch after I drove her car and left the power button on

my girlfriend's camry had an overdrive button and a power button... she got pissed when I played with them.

Sounds just like the e-at control switch on my Pathy. All it does for mine set the shift point to 4k rpms no matter the throttle input. But then again, the Pathy has the power to weight ratio of a sherman tank so I wouldn't notice a difference. Now on an AWD unit (G35x) the power/snow button splits the center diff to a 50/50 ratio instead of the normal full rear configuration. After you get up to 25 mph the system disengages back to full rear unless it detects a slip. Don't we all love ATTESA?

It uses more gas because it also leaves the torque converter unlocked completely. When unlocked (in simple terms) the TQ convertor is actually a torque multiplier up to it's stall speed.
