16.5 inch wheels??

so i bought a set of WHAT I THOUGHT were 16x8 Black Racing wheels
(watanabe ripoffs).

(yes, they're getting repainted)

I take them to the sweet mexican used tire shop, and they have EXTREME difficulty getting a 16 inch tire on. "ok", i think "maybe these are 17's and the guy didnt list them correctly".

wrong,
17's fall over the wheel completely.
on the spider, it says "16x8"

I measure the wheel from mounting point to mounting point, and they're 16.5.

now, outside of super swampers or other assorted offroad tractor tires, what and where can i find some shoes for these peices of crap?

bonus picture of a SSR that was reversed for no reason, and now has no use:

are you sure they were mounting them right?
cause that wheel looks like a reverse mount wheel.
if you measure any 16 inch from top to bottom it will always read more than 16 inch.
so tell em to reverse mount the bitch to get it to work.

how tall the outside of the lip is has nothing to do with the size of the wheel. im assuming he measured the actual bead, seeing as how nothing else is relevant.

why would they even make them in 16.5"?

I will take them off your hands since you can't use them.
P.S. why you repainting them? that Gunmetal one in the pic looks dope.

Those are reverse mount, tell them to flip it(face down) and hold the rim by the outside(pulling clamps in from the outside of the rim instead of extending them from the inside of it), outer lip is bigger. 13x7 wire wheels are like so, I mount those on a daily...

Ford has 16.5 inch rims a while ago. You measured from where the bead seats right, not the lip? Also when they were trying to mount the tires did they make sure it wasn't going on the where the bead seats?

i have honestly NEVER heard of reverse mount, so I apologize. yes, i measured from where the actual bead sits.

Remember, this is a mexican tire shop in north carolina. The guys that work there are super nice, and actually found me a nice set of KDW's for like 30 bucks a pop

why would the bead measure 16.5?

thanks for all the help, these wheels might be useful after all

(p.s., they are getting repainted gunmetal, the paint on there now, however, is chipping and showing RED paint through, for some reason)

if i cant get them to reverse mount, you've got dibbs. in fact, PM me an offer now if you want, i'm getting tired of these things already, and if they cant fit a cheap tire, i give up on them.

what is there to get frustrated with? It's a 16" wheel. Forget your measurements. It's reverse mount (the part of the wheel with the smallest diameter is nearest the back lip, not the front). So get any 16" tire you want, and take it to a shop that knows what the hell they are doing.

Reverse mounts suck... My Equips are reverse mount, and on top of that they have no outer bead and fitting 225s on a 10 sucked, until we lit it on fire...

ah they aren't that bad. Just have to be careful and use rim protectors.

Yeah, when cheeta doesn't work, a little carb cleaner and a match does.

This was w/o a cheetah, left our cheetah at TF, and was too lazy to go and get it.

Getting the tires off is the harder part with reverse mounts and stretched tires...
