its a bitch to get towed if you got a fiberglass kit, so maybe his reasoning for getting it isn't so screwy :P

how about fiberglass kits and or FMIC don't tend to agree with chains being attached to the factory tow hooks. I've got the dents in the bottom of my IC to prove it.

the nagisa ones are cool, but i wouldnt recommend unless youre gonna USE it, it would be a bit too fan boyish otherwise

i bet cops would be gay and hassle too, say some crap like it impairs line of sight

if anyones interested the nagisa are coming mid january

you can always also just pick up a "honda" towhook like benen or something and make it work.

Old thread, but FYI, the hooks on the bottom of the car are not tow hooks. They're tie-down straps used for transit.

If you actually tried to tow with those hooks the hooks would rip apart from the car, especially on a rusty car.

Never had a problem towing with them.

Actually, I shouldn't say that. I've never had the problem you're describing.

The problem I do have is that the tow hooks (or transit hooks) pose a high likely hood of breaking the lip or front bumper cover.

My lower lip cracked so I just cut that part of the lip out.

You can attach the hook to a winch and pull the car onto the back of a flat bed. That's fine. I've done that many times.

If you tried to tow with that hook, like pull the car at speed with all 4 wheels on the ground, or with one end in the air held up by the hook, you will snap it.

If you get a chance to disassemble a bumper support, especially the rear one, take a look at the structure of those hook. I think you'll think twice before towing with them.

That may be, but like I said I've never had a problem with it. I've towed my car multiple times with those hooks and have never had a problem. I've noticed no structural damage whatsoever.

Also, according to the FSM, they are in fact tow hooks (or as the FSM calls them, towing hooks)

The only precautions the FSM mentions with regard to using the tow hooks is the follwing:

Speed: Below 30 mph
Distance: Less than 40 miles.

Keeping all that in mind, if there is existing structural damage (like heavy rust) there's obviously an increased potential to cause further damage.

I think you misread that. The cited portion refers to towing an automatic with the rear wheels on the ground.

I believe that "towing hook" is only meant to be used to pull the car onto a flatbed, but I'm not a Nissan design engineer so I know nothing.
