stupid exhaust leak question

when you have a leak from the manifold to the head its got that tapping sound right? or would it not matter?

i just installed a header i got from a friend and there is this loud exhaust leak i cant find... sounds like its blowing through the thin metal gasket on the cat. sorry for the stupid question flame away...

also is there a silicon sealant for exhaust or would any high temp stuff work? its just for testing out certaint areas..

A quick way to check for exhaust leak is to stuff a rag into the tailpipe and completely plug it up. If the car pushes your rag out or stall, you don't have a leak. If the car is running just fine, then the exhaust is leaking from somewhere.

You probably have a leaky gasket or cracked manifold. There really isn't anything you can put on. You just have to replace the faulty part.

Get new gaskets and spray this crap on the surfaces before you bolt it together:

Razor Scraper FTW. The paste really sucks dick. But I find the spray easy to take off with a razor.

...and you're just going to spray more on.
