Noob here with a question

Hey guys I'm picking up a 180sx from calli in three but I got this question to ask you. I found a sr20de from one of my friend who is selling to me but how hard is it to turbo it and what do I need also can I put some sr20det parts on the sr20de. Any help will do also what is the compression on the sr20de.

Since you are thinking of swapping in a USDM SR20DE into your "180sx" I'm guessing you are not really getting a JDM 180sx, but rather that you think you will impress us by using "180sx" instead of the proper name, 240sx.

Your questions can be EASILY answered by doing a simple 1 word search. It would be in your best intrest if you use the search butotn in the future. Since you are a noobie, Ill get you going in the right direction:

LOTS of threads to pick through

Just 2 of the posts on the first of many pages that will probably answer a lot of the questions you have:

EDIT: found another one... SAME scenario as you, and 2 pages of info:

Next time, please search before posting something that has been discussed MANY times before.

Welcome to Zilvia.

an sr20de is NOT the same thing as a sr20det

an sr20de with sr20det turbo parts slapped on it is still not the same thing as a sr20det.

i think you need to do a little research on differences between the two engines. compression is higher on the sr20de then on the sr20det, as you would expect.

Why are you purchacing a car and the first thing you worry about before you even purchace it is a swap? Being a nub is no excuse for stupidity. EVEN IF you get a sr20de it's not even close to a sr20det.
The DET has oil squirter piston coolers
The DET has a bigger oil pump.
The DET has a different front pulley.
The DET has lower compression pistons (8.3:1 vs 9.5:1).
The DET has bigger injectors.
The DET has direct ignition.
The DET has a variable intake cam, runs retarded at idle, advanced mid range and retarded top end.
The DET has mechanical shim in bucket type lifters with a slightly bigger in duration exhaust cam.

Well put, Mel. In all honesty you would yeild better results with less pain by going KA-T. If you want SR and you want it boosted, just get a damn SR20DET. If you wanna boost a NA motor, boost the KA. Done and Done.
SR20DE does NOT = SR20DET, as stated above. no mater what you do to it.
