I like the cage... I'd add some more support to that tension rod bracket though.

christ thats hot, keep it coming! tension rod brackets don't appear to need more support due to their natural U design. but thats just personal opinion.

McRussellPants, I will keep an eye on them, but the bracket that the power brace bolts up to is 10ga. cold-rolled steel, its tough! I also did a double pass on the bracket when i welded it and I think it will hold....none the less, I will be keeping my eye on it when I get the car on the road.

I thought I'd post a few pics of my cage as a few of them weren't on the site for some reason. Its not the best cage to take ideas from and after going through it once there are a few things I would do again if I were to build another 240 cage. I'm not sure what the rules are for formula D or the newer SCCA rules but they usually prohibit a lot of added reinforcement unless it is signed off as an FIA cage. Depending on your height (I am 6'7") I would move the main hoop back a few more inches up onto the rear seat sill. From looking at the most recent research from side impacts, you want the door bars protuding out as far as possible to absorb as many gforces as possible before they hit you. My X-bars would designed differently if done again. The jack stands are highly recommended if you work on your car at events. The floor was also redone to allow the seat to sit about 2-3 inches lower.

That shit's tits. I saw the car @ GT Live sitting on the stands. There are 4 of them, and they can be put on with the body panels on the car, so like Bill said, they're great for events. I loved the idea the second I saw it. Post up more pics of the mounts for those if possible, it was hard to see where they were at VIR with the body panels on.

Bill's car is pretty much the other super bad ass S-chassis alongside the Enjuku silver drift car, as far as the engineering that went into it.

The jackstands are very common in rallying and are fairly easy to make. They are made with mild steel tubing but are more than strong enough for each corner of the car. The jacking points are mild steel tubing as well, reinforced with 1/8" plate on the outer and inner rocker panel. The nicest ones I have seen so far are the swrt titanium ones. very nice.

pretty neat cage being built in a 240z in sweden. i like the design of the doorbars, would they be scca legal? my only gripe is, i dont understand why they didnt make the dash bar 1 piece straight across, seems like in a side impact that would be a weak point...

It just looks it was made as they went along, and they thought that would be enough structure.... or something...

it looks so random, plus it goes through the firewall....

props on doing it, but smells a hint of jenky w/ that front dash loop i mean angle...

Bill, I have a couple of questions for you.

Do you think the rectangular panel that used to be where I cirled below is worth keeping? I'm going to at least have to cut holes through it for the bar. It looks really flimsy any way. It's just glued on.

What's going on with the floorboard here?

Why did you decide to slice off the roof? Couldn't you just move the main hoop through the windshield?

Yea, he said that earlier...

And cutting the roof off of race cars to cage it is very common with GOOD fabricators. It makes it a lot easier, especially with all that top cage work he did.

And that sheet metal in the back isn't worth much especially with a cage, haha.

Yeah, seriously. The purpose of the roll cage, other than to protect the occupants in case of a roll, is to strengthen the chassis rigidity, which should be much stiffer than what the factory roof can offer while in tact.

So he's not really losing anything by chopping up the roof to build that badass cage. After the cage is finished, the roof is just rewelded on so he doesn't get rained on and so there's a place to mount the front windshield lol

g6civic,
Pretty much what everyone just said. That sheetmetal in the back is just a rear seat support. There are some spot welds in it (nissan hides them very well).
The floor was just dropped down because I couldn't fit in a 240 otherwise. My head makes a bulge in S2000 and Miata soft tops!
The cage was more or less done when I cut the roof off. I had to weld a couple of tiny areas that couldn't be reached with the TIG torch otherwise. I also wanted to cut out the sunroof and lighten the roof section a bit.
