Basically, if they have EVERY touched an EMS before, they will be able to tune on 1.71 for the E8, the newer releases of the software make it so easy, a caveman can do it.
As far as your concern about varying temperatures adversely affecting performance, both steve and I have very good IAT correction value maps FOR the SR. If you are working off of the OEM loaded basemap then I could see your problem, but stating that a map + iat setup will function poorly in cold climate would have to be applied to the other 1000 OEM vehicles utilizing the same setup. As long as the correction maps are on, you'll be fine. Do you have a flying lead or patch harness? Seriously, have steve do a base map for you, you will flip over how well it goes.
