![]() I have a set of Buddy Club Rims 17x9s, Offset +37 I'm going to be running on the back of my '91 240sx Hatch. I'm doing a 5 lug swap with 300zx brakes and the 300z e-brake. There are 275/35 tires on there right now. Would I be able to fit a 275/40 on? I can't find any tires in the 275/35 size that I can order quickly. Or will a 255/35 or 255/40 fit on these also? I'd rather have a little smaller tire also if that is possible but I don't know if a 255 would fit on a 9 inch wide rim. Also with this offset will I need a spacer? I don't want to tear apart the whole rear end and put the hub on only to realize that I need to get a spacer to put the rim(ie when I put my front 5 lug conversion with 17x8s I needed a 15mm spacer.) I have stock suspension also. I need to swap out the brakes soon because the stock rears are really annoying (my third 240). Thanks in advance for the help.

Depending on the tire you are going to use you can use 275's on a 9" wheel. Some tires have different min rim width specs than others though so do the research if that is the width that you want. All that spec really means is that the tire is designed to function normally at that rim width, you can go outside the range but you may end up hurting the tire's performance. That width tire on that rim width will have drawbacks though. You will not be able to space your wheel out to have the "flush" look. You will end up with a little sidewall flex, however most high performance tires have sidewalls that are stiff enough so that it will not be a problem. It all really depends on what you like. If you like stretch and super flush wheel fitment, then use skinnier tires. If you want max contact patch then use the widest tires possible.

I'm sorry but 205's on a 9" wheel is a waste of wheel. You could fit that on a 7"wheel. 275 is the maximum reccomended tire width for a 9"wheel. 235 is the smallest I think anyone should go with a 9" wheel. My .02......again!

I know stretched tires are supposedly cool looking and are definitely very popular, but I just dislike them. Probably because I am a strictly grip guy, for now, when I finally decide to start drifting maybe my opinions may change. The main reason that people stretch the hell out of their tires for is super flush wheel fitment without flaring the hell out of their fenders. I just think they're dumb looking and I see no verified performance benefits. There's a lot of opinions on how they affect performance, but I have seen no real data or comparison tests. Besides I think that super wide tires look fuckin sick! Sicker than super flush wheels in my opinion.

First, what's the car's use?
Second, what kind of tires are you looking at? Third, what kind of power are you putting down? Fourth, why the hell are you still a 4x4? |
