Extended wheel studs/lug nuts

I'm looking to purchase some nismo extended wheels studs for my silvia.. as some of mine are toast. So i'm thinking i may as well replace them all with extended ones as i run pretty big wheels on the car. Now i think the 50mm length should work fine for me.. with 14.3 Knurl in the front and 13 knurl in the rear.. as i have a s14 5 lug conversion. I'm also considering getting the rays extended lug nuts.. but im hearing alot about them stripping. Can anyone shine some light on this? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Mine are chipping and pitting and I've taken my wheels off once since I got them, I'd look elsewhere

i've had rays extended for a year and no problems with stripping and i take my wheels off weekly. tighten lugs to specified torques and they'll be fine.

Track the car where heat becomes a big issue and then see if your response is still the same.

You can use ARP studs inplace of the nismo ones for half the price. check out the 2.5" long chevy/gmc studs on there website. same curl for the rear you just have to get 1.5x12 lugs which you are changing anyways. Thats what I run front and back on my s13.

Don't waste time and money with the garbage aluminum Rays lugs. Get some steel open-ended lugs for a fraction of the price and enjoy the peace of mind.

Aluminum nuts WILL strip out if you over-torque them, and are sensitive to heat. For these reasons, some tracks won't even let you pass tech with them.

Are you going to be running spacers? I'm using the Nismo 50mm studs with a 5mm spacer... there's plenty of engagement and no bottoming with LMGT4 lugs ($20-30 for the set from a Nissan dealership, steel closed-end). If you're going to go with bigger spacers, then definitely open-ended.

Avoid Project Kics like the plague if the car is going to see salt. I found this pic from one of my buddy's cars after an Ohio winter:

No the car is highly modified and won't even see rain.

Don't need spacers either.

yeah... get steel nuts...

I currently have 5zigen nuts.. and I've managed to strip like 2 so far (from one fucked up thread on peak performance studs... ugh.. don't get them, the studs I mean, lol)

anything aluminum will strip.. or can strip.

Great exactly what i needed. Fuck aluminum.. pay $150 for a pair of fucking lugnuts that strip real easy.

So who makes steel open ended extended lug nuts?

Muteki seems to be the prime runner now.. good price.. are they steel or aluminum 2 versions?

What material are the SR48's made of?

Project Kics or Project Mus. Can't go wrong with either.

Just make sure you tighten by HAND using a torque wrench.

An impact gun will strip the stud or the lug nut.

I use the Muteki lugs. I have had them for over two years with no problems at all. I have had to replace the key once...other than that, they are great. I don't know what material they are made out of though.

No chipping, no stripping or anything like that.

I also use the Ichiba studs and they work just fine as well. For $2 a pop.

No, i don't track my car...but thats my experience with them.

obx lugs, if you strip them but a new set. You can buy a few sets before it finally adds up to the price of brand name stuff. I had them on my car for 6+ months already.

I don't mind doing it all by hand. I just want a lug nut that isn't a total piece of shit especially when your spending $150+ on them. Muteki SR48's look pretty good.. most people have been saying they are quality. I usually wouldn't buy muteki.. but hey.. only like $60 shipped.. so i could go through 2 sets before 1 sets of rays.
