I've seen an 04 xb get 40+ mpg when driven without pushing it. It's a bigger car and has PLENTY of room inside with a 1.5l in it. If I were too look at a gas saver but don't want to sacrifice room then get a used xB. If you don't care about room then go for the fit. Another car is the smart car but is very very very tiny but is, pretty much, the flavor of the year for cars.
If it JUST comes down to the 2 cars then go with the Fit. You could always get a intake and exhaust and get better milage with those two mods anyways. Then, down the line, save up some cash and put in a k20 or turbo. The turbo would actually get better gas mileage but the k20 is the sex.

i think fit is a better choice because it is more fun to drive and easier to resell. hybrid repair cost is a big concern for most used car buyers. But pyrius is comfortable to drive long distance .... so maybe you can consider about to get a civic to compromise in between if you drive a lot. just my 2cents

I think a good compromise is the civic hybrid. you can essentially swap in the civic si suspension, and a have a fairly fun car to drive, while still being fuel efficient. also looks a lot better than the prius too. mpg is slightly lower, but I think it's more fun to drive.
The fit is a great choice too. I was about to get one myself a few months ago (sport model, 5spd, red), but fell for the civic si sedan instead. I get around 24mpg combined, but premium fuel only. Last fill-up was almost $50 :P |

thanks for all the input. I know its only been a few hours but with your comments I feel more comfortable going with the fit. I still have a few weeks untill I make the next purchase, but really leaning towards the cbr

A Prius only gets like 48mpg city/45mpg highway.
The Fit is almost as good but it's cheaper, sportier, and more practical. Definitely get a Fit, they're fantastic cars. Personally, I'm waiting to see if the new Fiat 500 will get released in the US. if not, I'll probably go for an 09+ Fit.

I would say it's probably because everything's heavier nowadays, but... Fuck those things. 2 seats with 4 wheels attached, how much could it POSSIBLY weigh? Yet they only see ~40mpg (41 I think, to be exact). And how much could it possibly COST? 2 seats with 4 wheels and a lawnmower engine is cheap, right? $15 GRAND? Oh.

Older cars didn't have six airbags or as much noise dampening or a million other things that porky new cars have. Additionally, for people really worried about conservation/enviro impact as well as the financial cost of fuel economy, it's important to note that an EG VX is a much more responsible choice than a Prius. Yes they get the same mileage, but how much energy/materials are depleted and how many carbons are emitted in trying to BUILD one new Prius? A shit-ton. Compared to NONE for a used car that's already been on the road for 10 years. Lightweight old cars rule.

Yeah, there are alot of late 80's - mid 90's cars that get high 30's into 40's mpg - I think the reason is that in order for cars to meet "US emission standards" they get worse gas mileage. also all the junk that is in new cars.

my family has a 05 prius, we have also went to look at the Honda Fit
both car cool cars, BUT Prius has a much better ride for a DD, way better MPG, its bigger than the Fit, you can comfortably sit 5 people, its a hatch, meaning you can put quite alot of stuff in the back, and most importantly ~06 Prius usually has the carpool sticker! driving by urself in the carpool lane is awesome ![]() so far, there hasnt been any problem with the car oh and did i mention 500 miles to a tank ![]() Fit's suspension wise is alot stiffer, more like my s13 with coils...but maybe not that bad, but its very small car, rear barely have any room, engine noise is alot "louder" compared to the Prius, only one thing I remember about the Fit which was fun was the paddle shift thing on the auto 5 speed |

The Yaris might be ok if you throw some Tiens on it. I heard the suspension is way too soft and feels unstable on highways. Also, since they aren't selling, you could supposedly get a huge discount on them.

I want a Honda Stream, but I don't think it'll ever get released here.

i got an 08 5-speed fit sport for a daily last year and love it. looks way better than a prius (to me), actually handles quite well and is fairly amusing to drive, holds tons of stuff, and i average 35-38 mpg.

yaris is lighter, but its not quite as fun to drive as the Fit. I test drove one last year, and really wasn't too impressed. The suspension feel quite a bit softer, and the steering is very light. Also, some of the earlier 5spd base models didn't even have a tach. The Fit's a lot more fun to drive, despite the larger dimensions and added weight.

+1 for the fit. Seats are easy to configure and mess around with. Peppy little motor, even has v-tec haha. The chassis feels solid, too. Also, if you wanna wait for next year's redesign, you'll get the same mpg with a power increase to 120hp.

I'd say buy neither.
Get a bike. Or if you're going to get a car, get something cheap that you can make fun to drive, and won't regret owning if gas prices go down again. The Fit is the new bandwagon, and if you bought a Prius, you would have to contend with being labeled a tool, along with owning a very unecological friendly car if you're into that sort of thing. But yeah, here's my suggestions. I say you hold off on a new car for a bit until the economy stabilizes a bit, and in the meantime enjoy not having a car payment. Pick up one of the following for cheap, and have fun until you decide to buy something nice again. Volkswagen GTi mkII Honda CRX Isuzu Impulse with Lotus handling BMW E30 318is Or something along these lines. Here's what I bought for $1500. Almost mint condition, 2 owner AE86 SR5 5-speed. ![]() |

I just bought a Versa. I checked out all of the gas box cars like the Yaris, Fit, Versa, Mazda 3, etc... Personally I liked the Versa the best, had the most toys available for the same gas efficiency. Personally, I'm in love with it, and the comfort it has. Try it out
