didn't notice this thread til lately.
gots me a new pair of skyspeeds. i LOVE this shoe! ![]() it's SO light; and not terribly flimsy compared to other minimal shoes. ran the tokyo marathon 10K last month; 39:40! in traffic no less. I'm ramping my miles back up now lately, no more taper madness...cool to see a bunch of dudes here that run, too.

Yeah, she runs with the Forerunner 405, which I absolutely hate. The touch bezel feature seems cool until you try to use it.. Magnificent failure. We don't carry that model anymore, but we do carry the 110, 210, and 310. I've had my eye on the 310 since it came out, and if I were planning to do any big running training or triathlons, I'd consider getting it, it's just a beast to shell money out for ($400 w/ Heart Rate).

I need to get into running, but I haven't found a nice shoe to beat on. I had a nice pair of Onitsukas that I loved, but gave em to my bro because he'd rather wear them and keep them nice.
I like being barefooted. I don't have money to burn, but I understand good shoes are investments in myself. I'm pushing to drop my mile time to under 8 minutes by summer's end. Suggestions? |

No problems with my trail gloves, love them, I can't stand wearing socks with the vibrams because when I do, I have like a web between two of my toes that the socks put a shitload of pressure on it ![]() |

Running barefoot would be a great idea, save for the fact fucktards love throwing glass bottles and shit. I would love to find a really minimal shoe that simply protects my feet from glass/sharp shit. I know that eventually, your feet to callous up (in a good way), but until then, I'd rather not have glass embedded into my skin.
Then again, I could bandage this problem by running with a nice fine bristled shop broom. Haha |

I've caught a bit of the flu the past few days, which kinda throws things off. On top of that, Sacramento has gotten the weirdest weather for this time of year recently...
I only managed to get in 8 miles last week. Going out again tomorrow, sinuses permitting! |

Wag I'm gonna be pming you on some saucony's, I think I need to supplement my minimal shoes with regular shoes as well so I can still get good mileage in. Do you have a good stability recommendation? I've had the omni's in the past and loved them, also had the progrid guide's as well and loved them.

The Guide is more of a Guidance shoe (slightly less posting than a typical Stability shoe), whereas the Omni has a bit of a wider, more stable base, and more posting. The fit is different between the two, but the cushion is about the same. Either way, you should be fine. I carry both, and have no problem hooking you up. You might even consider picking up a Neutral running shoe, as it will be more structured and cushioned than your Minimal shoes, but not quite to the extent that a Stability shoe is.
Saucony: Stability - Omni, Hurricane Guidance - Guide Neutral - Ride, Triumph Minimal - Kinvara, (soon to be) Hattori Keep your eyes out for the Hattori, by the way! Our Saucony rep came in last week and showed us the pre-run of it... It's gonna be dope! 0mm drop from heel to toe, fair cushioning, velcro closure... 4.4oz!!! My only concern is the lack of rubber outsole, which means your cushion is grinding on the pavement with every step... Not sure how long these will last, but the Nike Free's and the Kinvara has been doing it with fair success.. Just hoping the cushion is firmer than the Kinvara, because those do burn out a little fast... But yeah. 4.4oz, zero drop Saucony Minimal shoe... The Hattori. So dope. ![]() |

Speaking of sick minimal shoes, I just got to work a few hours ago and Brooks sent us the PureProject lineup!
The PureGrit (minimal trail), PureConnect (minimal), PureFlow (minimal w/ high cushion) and PureCadence (minimal stability) are all sick!! Can't wait for them to be released later this year. I'll snap some pictures and post them up later! |

I've just gotten into running and need some advice. I'm 5' 10" and 188lbs (just weighed lol).
Anyway I was wondering what kind of shoes I should look into. I have flat feet so a lot of shoes seem to be a bit uncomfortable. Right now I run with some NikeFlex Air shoes. They are decent but not as comfortable as I would prefer. Also any strategies on keeping my throat from burning lol? Its one of the big reasons I can't keep a steady pace. I also run with the android app "Cardio Trainer." Its pretty convenient for your running routes and keeping track of like an exercise regimen. Also logs your calorie loss. Anyway thanks for any help.

Those Hattoris look awesome!!! I hope they would have some in wide sizes. So I wasn't able to post up my weekly mileage last week, I've been busy traveling home from Oklahoma. So here it is:
1.) 12.3 2.) VFF 3.) Road 4.) No issues 5.) 8:00 pace 6.) 7 rating, I wasn't really motivated to run that week due to me flying back home.

The main problem most people with flat feet have is that typical shoes are going to feel invasive and uncomfortable. The main reason is that most shoes are designed for someone with a mid-height arch or higher. The thing you'll have issues with as a flat footed individual is that your foot will hit places that most will not. ![]() The picture above shows two Brooks shoes. The Adrenaline is a typical stability shoe, meant for a mid-to-high arch, slight arch drop and slight ankle pronation. The shoe on the right (Addiction) is meant for low-to-flat arch, moderate-to-heavy pronation. You can see how a flat foot will "hang over" the shape of the former. When shoe shopping, I'd recommend turning the shoe over and looking for a flatter, broader "last" (shape of shoe) through the middle of the foot, and a decent chunk of GRAY FOAM under the arch on the midsole. Gray foam equals pronation support. Feel it. It's denser than the white foam. It will resist your body's urge to pronate (roll to the inside), and hold your ankles, knees and hips in better alignment. Without properly fitting you and analyzing your gait (ANALyze!! lolz!!) it's hard to tell you "this shoe is best for you." Just looking at the info you've given me (5'10, 188#, flat feet), I'd most likely suggest a Motion Control shoe, maybe a heavy Stability shoe. My suggestions: Saucony - Omni, Stabil CS2 Asics - Foundation, Evolution New Balance - 940 Brooks and Mizuno both make Motion Control shoes, but I have a feeling they'd be slightly clunky and bulky on your foot. Find a store that carries them, measure your foot standing up, buy a shoe 1/2 size to a full size larger than your longer foot. I measure a 10, wear an 11. Your feet swell and move around a lot inside the shoe, and if your toes are bumping the end of the shoe, you run the risk of bruising the nail bed and letting your toe nails fall off... fun. |

HOLY CRAP - PureProject is launching tomorrow!!
And Sean has the sneak peek!!
This is the first set of images I can find with my quick Google search, so enjoy the assumed World First public showing of the PureProject shoes! Officially, the shoes launch tomorrow, and I think they'll get here later this year (around October?). Like I said, I showed up at work this morning and we were graced with the latest from Brooks - the PureProject lineup for later this year. Brooks came out with the "Float vs. Feel" chart, which shows some popular Brooks shoes in the Float category which are performance shoes with comfort in mind, and on the other side of the X axis are the Feel shoes (PureProject), which provide less cushion and structure than most, but provide more FEEL of the ground and surroundings on your run. I'll start with the PureFlow. Minimal platform with high cushion. 4mm drop. Sadly, they didn't list the weights on any of the models, so I can only say they're LIGHT. I'd say they're all 8oz or less, but it's hard to judge. Not as light as the Minimus line, but way more cushion and they're likely to have more life as they have more rubber outsole than other Minimal shoes. FOLLOWING IMAGES NOT FOR USE WITHOUT PERMISSION - [email protected] Men's and Women's PureFlow ![]() Men's PureFlow ![]() Women's PureFlow ![]() Men's medial side PureFlow ![]() Women's medial side PureFlow ![]() Men's outsole PureFlow ![]() Women's outsole PureFlow (easier to see the amount of rubber on the outsole for extra durability) ![]() Men's and Women's upper front PureFlow - another view of the "split toe" design incorporated in all the PureProject shoes, presumably for more natural toe off and a more "barefoot" feel. Only affects the sole of the shoe, does NOT split the toes "ninja style" ![]() Men's and Women's upper back PureFlow - strong heel cup and slight "split" in heel, again presumably for more natural feel on the ground. ![]() Last edited by WagDatto; 03-30-2011 at 08:34 PM.. |

Next, the PureGrit.
Brooks had Scott Jurek help design this shoe. Uses a "concave outsole" to allow a better feel of the trail. Brooks states that this is the shoe "For runners who want increased connection to their unique environment but feel trail shoes put too much shoe between them and the trail." Construction of the upper is a tighter mesh to allow for less dirt entry. Very thin rubber outsole, I'd assume very little protection from rocks, but the tread DOES protrude around 1/4"-1/2", so it's hard to say without running them. The PureCadence, probably the weirdest one, if you ask me...
The PureCadence has a bit of pronation support built in. Brooks says "Instead of using a post to correct pronation, PureCadence uses an internal PDRB ramp activated by the natural gait of the runner as his body sees fit." It sounds very similar to the Dynamic Support of the Lunar shoes from Nike. The more you pronate, the more support you get. The PureCadence also uses the strap found on all of the uppers in the PureProject lineup but connects THIS one to the outside of the midsole. I'd assume that as you pronate, it is providing a small amount of resistance to the inward motion. The one I'm most excited about - The PureConnect.
This is the true Minimal shoe from the PureProject lineup. No silly support mechanism, no unnecessary cushion, no thick outsole. This is the bare-bones shoe. This shoe feels significantly lighter than the MR10 Minimus shoe. I'd put it right around 7.5oz, as it felt slightly less than the Kinvara, but again, it's hard to guess, maybe I'm just excited about it. Who's it for? Brooks answers "For runners craving the least amount of shoe for the maximum amount of Feel, PureConnect frees the foot and gets a runner as close to the ground as is safely possible, making the shoe a natural expression of your body."
