KA240 - Thats what I was thinking. And yes, not the best idea I know, but it's not my only car so it's not too big of a deal.

bataang - totally my thoughts, but I ended up with a new OEM one for $18 that will have to do for now

So last night It was pretty wet out so I figured I would take the 240sx out to learn to drift a little. *note* I am really new and just getting into drifting. In other words the 240sx is only on lower springs, open diff sadly, and has a stock ka24de.

I was doing well but i could only initiate the drift(power slide) by clutch kicking and I would get too excited/nervous and keep my foot on the gas.. and due to the help of the open diff -___- it would fling the car back around and that eventually made me run over a curb. thank god there was little to no damage if anything just the front bumper.

What I am asking is a little advice. I plan to purchase all new rotors/pads because my e-brake doesn't lock up the rear tires yet even with an adjustment. I am also looking to purchase PBM competition coilovers, and I am getting my diff welded. Is there much more to it then that as a beginner drifter besides lots of tires/drift spares??

I am reading up all the time so please don't flame. Thank you.

I am researching everyday just thought I'd lay that out there for now.

if theres anything you should have found from your research, you'd know that starting off on the street is stupid.
lets say that curb did fuck your car up, well that would cost more than the ~100$ it costs for an event. plus you were probably only driving for no more than 2 hours, whereas an event you get like 8 hours.

go to an event.

you dont need coilovers to drift, i suggest learning without it first. get a proper seat instead.

your ebrake not locking might be because of your lines, they could be stretched. I'd look into that first, cause if your ebrake doesn't lock your brakes then slamming your pedal should only lock the front kinda.

you dont need lots of spares, slow it down dude. you aren't roasting tires if youre a beginner. focus more on your technique rather than preparing yourself for the act. get tires as you need them, and if you so need to get spares then get something cheap like oem wheels for now.

many people on here have drifted ka respectably, so don't give up with that either.

lastly, learning with an open diff is better than learning with a welded

Couldn't have said it any better. And you are totally right made me realize how stupid it was when I did it.

Yeah I was about to buy 4 steelies with tires for $50, figured I should grab them. I have signed up for a drift event for July 20th so I am definitely looking forward to that.

I am planning to go to Adam motorsports on a drift night and just do a ride along to see how it all goes then pay to try drifting there myself.
Thank you. I am just getting way ahead of myself.

Learning to drift on a Open is retarded. It is not fun.
Don't go to Adam's and save the money to go to Willow.

drifting on an open is 100% better than learning on a welded in every single way, if you actually want to learn.

egg-sactly.
a welded is always locked, meaning you can't not break the rear end loose. Let's say you drift on a welded for 3 years and decide to switch to a 1.5 or 2 way. Well, neither of those diffs are constantly locked, unlike the welded, so as soon as it unlocks its gonna act like an open.

Did you learn how to drift with an open? No. So now youre gonna have to relearn some of the basics on controlling your diff, whereas if he learns to do it then goes to welded, he won't. Might as well learn now, save the money needed to weld it, and do it later when he can't progress with a welded or feels he is ready to explore more set ups.

If my opinion mattered, I'd say learning on an open then going straight to a lsd is much better. skip the welded cause it doesn't really teach you much. You'll prolly even get 'babied' by the welded and when you do switch it up, if ever, your skill will drop quite a bit as you readjust.
