The hay-day of the U.S. Drift community has surely come & long gone. In the days where people, (for what it's worth) took pride in making a nice looking & well built car. Emulating japanese style used to be the cool thing to do because it was the only thing around at that time. (Early D1GP in the U.S.)

Now that it's gone, most people who knew it then & owned s chassis have more or less moved on. Today there are tons of people just getting into it, who just #aintcare because most places where drifting is presented, it just isn't inline with japanese style. (Formula D, youtube clips of self proclaimed hoonigans, ken block, and energy drinks, etc) From there it goes down it's own new road with new trends, stlying & attitude altogether.

Plus some people are just born to love looking shitty.

Haters gonna hate though right?

Pfff

I will be smiling ear to ear on the day when I cruise in my s14 and not see another 240 that has been "missled" out as there are no 240s left to do such a thing. Threads like this show that this trend is starting to die now, which is a good thing

I did in fact join this forum not long ago, mostly to learn from people who have been around 240's a lot longer than I have. It's nice to be able to have other people's experience to help me along. That being said, most 240 owners think they have a pot of gold when all they really have is a late 80 to mid 90 wore out, run down, hacked on pos. it's an awesomely fun car to drive for what it is, an old beater. Mine was a trade in at the dealer where I work. Blown head, massive oil leaks, and all the usual electrical and trim problems. It was heading to the junk yard if I hadn't bought it. Driving cars like this is supposed to be fun. it's hard to have fun with out causing some damage, weather it be body or mechanical. Some times I'm gonna break stuff that's just the way it is. I'm not ashamed my bumper doesn't fit quite right cause i will prolly get rear ended on the way to work by one of you while your texting onto the way to work tomorrow.

Oh good. Another anti-drift/savethe240 thread.

I knew what drifting was long before I even knew what a 240sx was. The ONLY reason I bought a 240 was to drift it. If I ever decide to give up drifting, I will immediately rid myself of anything 240 related. There are many newer, more comfortable, maintenance free, modern sports cars to choose from. Why would I continue to drive an outdated, outdated, expensive to maintain, outdated, '90s, coupe? I have a great job, don't need to be daily driving around like I'm living in poverty.

So why did I choose the 240 as my drift platform? Simple financial reasons. They cost less than a months rent! When I eventually ram a 240 into the wall hard enough to kill the frame, I can strip my 20K of parts and bolt everything onto the next victim 240. A drift-totaled 240 will set me back only a grand, whereas a wrecked 370z/RX-7/FR-S would be a loss of 10K plus.

I'm sure my forged wheels will survive. The baller wheel circle-jerk fellas tell me cast Rota/XXR/Varrstoen wheels will shatter like thin glass, but forged wheels provide ABS braking, weather control, zero gravity, time reversion, and survival of a nuclear holocaust. My Isis suspension arms, on the other hand, will allegedly spontaneously combust and kill everyone present.

These cars are staying on the road MUCH longer than other vehicles. When did you last see an '89 Cavalier on the street? '89 Eclipse? How about an '89 Accord? 240s aren't being scrapped at the first wall tap. If the front or rear end gets eternally compromised (to the point of halving the cars overall length) the damaged section gets chopped off, tubed, new overfenders, new bodykit, then drive, crash, repeat.

If anyone is opposed to the missile crisis club, they can simply buy a Rustang or Slowmaro. You don't see drift damage on those things; if they even attempt to corner on throttle, they get sliced in half by the nearest oak tree. Next stop, car crusher.

Some people need to give up their binky, blankie, and 'Love can last forever' attitude. People are born, live life to the fullest, then they DIE! I'm starting a new moment called "Ethical 240 treatment"

CARS DESERVE TO DIE TOO!!!

The only truth in what you said. Also no one wants to share a moment with you. If you meant, "movement" then you are in luck because Hoonigans exist. Someone beat you to it.

On a serious note, you are right. Your baller forged wheels will do all of those things. My baller wheels like to seek out and tbag rotas and the like. I've seen it.

[QUOTE=dbeiler;5802893]Oh good. Another anti-drift/savethe240 thread.

You are quite right in your response, 240's are relatively cheap and that you don't need to have the most expensive or best looking "drift car/setup" to drift....but on the other hand 240's are also quite capable and reliable cars that Can be daily driven if they are maintained (as normal car's are) and did not fall in the hands of the drift afficianado's like yourself....as you stated in your rant "These cars are staying on the road MUCH longer than other vehicles"...I agree 100% with that as well. Now saying that one would expect to see drift cars on the the track drifting and such...and see fine looking and working examples being driven on the streets. This is not the case, what one typically see's is a 240sx that does not belong on the street and would be questionably on a track being driven as a dailyand the owner complains that the car is unrelaible because "its old and out dated"...therein lies the issue.

Your challenge to my face will be accept on the point of condition number pronto. Have you the gaul to irradicate your pink hued paper of the ownership of the hachi roku in possesion of your sir name, then surely Mt. Akina will be the meeting place of acceptance of honor defense in the fourth night of the adjacent week today proportionally. My Skyline will be submitting the idle of engine purring on the road side conveniently awaiting opposition. No words required to engage save the dropping of female clothing article to the pavement (preferred article pantaloons or bloomers) to incite the tire smoke and subsequent victory of My Skyline.

My Skyline stands alone.
Your opportunity for victory is assuredly none.
But friends share beverage and handshake after Your Hachi Roku is transferred to my surname.
Ha! The great Obee, your self-confidence, is warranted. The riveting thought of facing the legendary skyline sends a...erotic, sensual feeling through my blood.

But when the sun descends over the celestial beautiful peak of Mt. Akina, it's I, my 4A-GE 20 Valve, forged piston, 12,000RPM tofu-inline cross feed hyper injection Hachi that shall leave the enchanting rich smell of rubber...and sour beans. Your name, will ring of defeat through the roaring winding roads of the Akina pass. May I advocate, we invite our Zilvian brothers, to view from the birds eye and witness the spectacular defeat of Obee, The Great. I shall not fear, your Skyline...As I, my AE86, the mythical tofu-rocket, will guide me to a immense victory and the first to conquer...The Skyline.

The fourth night approaches...showdown it will be. Forever live...the tofu rocket burner, my AE86.

This doesn't have to be the case.
Once we smite all the meatfaced heathens from the face of the internet we can rest once again in peace on our laurels and pass the time with tales of our gallivants with white women and their sisters.

Drifting is pretty much dead. We are just riding out the last wave of uncool kids who were too late to jump on the bandwagon and thus due to having no deep-rooted connection to the glory days they will only serve as the nails in the coffin in which I sleep during daylight before I feed.

Hmm, Drifting is far from dead. If anything, drifting have expanded and grown to a level that almost everyone including there grandmothers know about drifting. Have you seen the recent commercials featuring drifting? Like BMW or Ford?

Drifting is growing a consistent and steady rate I would say...BUT, it's heading down a real shitty mainstream path. To paraphrase what you just said, drifting of today has truly lost it's deep rooted connection to the glory days, not just the kids...but the culture, the cars, EVERYTHING damn near. It seems that anything America touches, we got to find a way to either 1) Make it Americanized (Like are push for democracy for other countries) or 2) Make a profit off it, and take it mainstream. SMDH, just can't leave shit alone or as is.

Exactly. It peaked in high school and has been on a downward spiral ever since. There may be tons of people doing it, but only as a fad or for all the wrong reasons, and those people will move onto the next cool thing as soon as the hip elitist crowd tells them what it is.
Kind of how Facebook has been steadily losing its younger user base and 'cool' status ever since everyone's grandmother learned of it and BMW and Ford flooded it with drifting commercials.

Aha, I see what your saying now. In that case, yes I strongly concur. It's also all these phasers, hipsters, fad-goers, swaggots (which ever you choice of terminology) who is also bringing the s-chassis and a lot other 90s cars to scarcity.

Well in theory at least....once this fad passes, it should return back to "normal", as it will begin to lose it's luster and WOW effect. Thus, leaving the drift world back for the real enthusiast to claim back. Of course this in theory...I feel like this is not going to be the case unfortunately. But I will remain optimistic and say it will.

Why didn't you sell your 240 to buy your skyline like all the other proud 240 owners have and are currently doing?

Ps: make sure you put the skyline right next to the 240 in your shed so you don't accidentally have fun driving it one day.

People are going to wonder in awe when they see my motorized seatbelts.

God....I hope your theory comes true. I can only hope.

Kind of how Facebook has been steadily losing its younger user base and 'cool' status ever since everyone's grandmother learned of it and BMW and Ford flooded it with drifting commercials.
QFT, it isn't the same as is was. When you have AT, multicolored, battered and beaten cars for sale for over 3,500 based on the owner's promise of "potential" it has, you know that it's really over.

Remember the days when drifting was sponsored by actual aftermarket supporters, (HKS, Tomei, etc) and not engery drinks? I bet you don't because I'm sure that never happened in America.

I agree s-chassis are slowly dying off. Living in Japan with the American Military community I can't tell you how cars I've seen get bought by some boot and then a month later ends up in a junk yard because they thought they could "drift". I think the direct corralation to s-chassis extinction is not so much drifting, but the stupidity of the owners. Everyone now a days have the mindset of "it's broken, junk it and buy a new one".

Threads like this remind me of a couple months ago...
"That your 240?"
"it's in front of my house"
"is it for sale"
"no"
"not for ANY amount of money?"
"what're you offering? And those Equips are genuine"
"I dunno, what's fair? What have you done to it? Can I look over it first?"
"Yeah, lemme get the key"
*slams door and never opens it*
Next time this kid knocks on my door, he will speak with my 12 gauge.
