First off, This is a awesome project. =) I've had experience with 3 of the 4 options you've mentioned above. Once my stock 3rd gear died on me I Ran the OS cross-mission in my GTR then eventually went to the OS88, and am running a PPG dog box in my S15. I'd stay away from the OS cross-mission for your set-up. U need a dog mission or that auto. If you want dog enguagement as u know the PPG is much nicer on the street. 88 is great for the track and under wot... Can't beat it IMO actually and the ratio options are a bit more friendly, espically w/ the big twins but, on the street not so much. Every stoplight, passin on the highway etc....clunk, clunk, clunk, down through each gear everytime. No skiping or quick jumps to N. You know what I mean. And your correct about the service being less expensive except on the intervals, and according to my records. I do overhauls once a year and from the looks of it could probably go quite a bit longer on the PPG after seeing how well things have been holding up. Another thing that u hit on is fitment, w/ the GTR boxes. FYI, Friend's racing in JP does their own custom version of a OS88 GTR box where they remove the transfer case and add a SR bell housing for their shop car's so they fit right in S-chassies. I'm sure they could do a version for u that keeps the RB bell housing. Your car is going to be so hardcore anyway, Option 2-4 would all be fine. But after I read your post. The auto may be the way to go, given what your plans are for the car. Next I would say PPG, based on the fact u still want to street drive it and it's a bit less expensive. but the OS88 is pure sex.. ah tuff call. Feel free to hit me up if you have any other Q's suscribed =) ![]()

Just read the thread from front to back (1-1.5 hours
![]() My Dad served in Okinawa. If my memory serves me right, he was 1st Marines, 1st Med Battalion, Motor T. Pencil pusher pretty much.. I can't really find much to say about the build that anyone else hasn't already said. Everything on the car has been given care and thought. It truly is an original work of art and like everyone else, I can't wait to see the finished product. BTW, I live in MS so if you ever have an itch to visit south MS in the finished product, I'd be your personal slave. ![]() |

There is still alot of time consuming work to be done, along with paying for it all. When it is all said and done I feel it will be a well put together project with no corners cut.

On a Side Note - This project is hereby benched. I am NOT bringing it back to the United States in the near future but will eventually do so. I have to focus on my transition from the military to the civilian sector. I have arranged for the car to be finished by a pretty respectable shop here in Okinawa that I have a good relationship with. Although, not ideal, I will not have the tools, facilities or the money to buy the tools that are needed to finish it when it does get back. So the new plan is this: 1. Shop will finish on a schedule we set up today 2. Car will be running by the end of the year 3. I will arrange for Kaizo to import it in the spring of next year. 4. I will beat the shit out of it next summer All of this stems from the likelyhood that I will be in Iraq within 2 months and 12 more months of idle time plus more of my indecisiveness would equate to this thing never being finished. I will post up some pictures when it is complete. Although this situation kind of sucks, it is better than abandoning it as a whole. |

I have seen too many times guys end up giving up on bringing the car once they are already in the US, because you are away from the car, and cant controll what is happenning with it. Unless you have a family member or someone that you absolutley trust that will do everything necessary on the Japan side. By the way would Kaizo be doing the kit car thing? or full registration? you can pm if you prefer.

Kaizo does unibody kit car's here in Japan, that way they export as a kit car and are recognized by the U.S. Guy's have been pulled over by Ca CHP in Kaizo cars and subsequently left alone because how they do it, is legit. I know a few of the guys that went through them, and have seen some other cars over there that went through them, so it seems that it owuld be best for me to use something tried and proven. Once the car is there in the U.S. it will get registered and will be just fine. Either way I was going, it really didn't matter, S15's are not and will never be on any eligibility list for an RI import. Recent car mag in the U.S. had a Kaizo S15 in it There are a few R32 GTR's and at least one R34 GTR that I know of |

You would be right, if I up and sold it, but I didn't. I turned down the 13,000.00 offer for the motor, and I went off and got someone to finish it up in my absence. The bottom line is, a year in Baghdad or in training for another job I might be taking still equates to NOT working on this car and more delays. I want it to actually be finished, so um yeah, you called jack shit. |

So who you got to finish up the car Brian? Funny how I've been on this island for 2 yrs and have not taken the liberty to see this thing in person...I think I figured that if I see the body/engine and see your OCD first hand, I'd probably drive car off Hedo Point or set it on fire...

good luck getting in LEGALY into the states... Kit car can only be 60% of the orginal car (motor swap dosen't count)and must still pass FEDERAL smog and crash testing even if importing. Many JDM car have been turned way at custom and some crushed when owner would not ship back to Japan....one hell of a nice car would hate to see it crushed...Please check everything out yourself, do not take there word that they can get the car in to the states.....

With how much time he himself has put into it, I don't see why it wouldn't get finished.
Brian, post new pictures of your hatch

Please go dsome research yourself as well. I have been corresponding with the EPA and DOT as well as a few companies on this one. I am pretty sure I can make it happen. I am not some poor kid fan boy with a big imagination. There are a few Kaizo S15's in the U.S. right now being driven as well as a few Kaizo GTR's. The shit is possible and done on a regular basis. Now find a majority that are willing to cough up the 10K plus to make it happen. Kaizo issues a Kit car unibody with U.S. VIN, how the fuck is that illegal? I know of a couple of guys that have been pulled over in Ca driving Kaizo Cars adn they were let go, do you know why? After Kaizo is done with the Chassis it is no longer a Nissan or whatever, it is a KAIZO. After 10 years here in Japan and all of that BS wannabe importers trying to take us for our cars and cash, you can bet that I have done some leg work and also, have a very trusted friend that has already gone this route successfully. Now if some guy from Fl. promises me a Fl. state title and some other BS, you can bet I will run like hell. Anyways, This thread needs to go into hibernation for a while until I have something meaningful to post. |

All the KAIZO car with Nissan motors are in viloation of Custom ,DOT and EPA laws and will eventually get caught and lose there cars....
Hope you can do it , but I saw more the 10 cars take by custom in just one week and Cost owner $$$$ to send them back to Japan... Good luck Hope to see you on the road here Soon..... |
