Opinons of gauges...best/worst...elec/machanical...?!?

I bought a pair of Autometer boost/oil pressure mechanical gauges recently along with a pod. They seem cheaply made and I'm not 100% on the fittings and way they will work (the long tube method).

I've been thinking about selling them for some electronic gauges but not looking to break my bank either. I'd also like something in PSI with English instructions. What would be nice is a unit like the Defi Link Display that displays two things at once (but the damn thing doesn't display boost pressure and you need to buy the sensors and a control unit)

So single gauges is probably the way to go...

Lets hear your opinions of electrical gauges/mechanical, brands, etc.

Problem I see with mechanical gauges (long tubes) is their ability to become pinched. What may look like boost leak might just be your line being caught between some misc. part.

And that sums up my knowledge on gauges.

i use defi
reliable, accurate, long history in gauge making (longer then autometer)
easy to control, install and the link systme with box is great, very nice. can hook up to warning lights and whatnot. various sizes

i use 60mm bf series

pricey but you wont regret
i look at it this way: buy cheapie brand you dont really want but your kinda short on cash ....or save up for what you DO want and never have to upgrade again.

i had some defi d-gauges. they're the cheapest ones defi makes i think but still a lot nicer than autometer. i sold em when i got sponsored by saga/swoosh

same here, bf imperials... nothing i can realy add to that description. All the features w/ the controller are great, only need to wire once for all the gauges

Greddy Electronic Oil Pressure

I use the white face 52mm, really cheap, even if you combo it with a sandwich adapter

It comes with english instructions (but all you really need to know is what color wire is what, i.e illum, battery, etc) and its in kg/cm.

Yeah, Omori is good, more popular among the Subaru guys, and I think they are up north in Norcal, so at least there's some form of US support.

Defi is good stuff, you get what you pay for!

Omori has a very nice line of imperial gauges, they look a lot like the Greddy. Expensive, but good reputation.

I have a set of greddy electrics and i'll tell you, don't get them. The wiring is a PAIN. Defi link is sooooooooooo much simpler to wire and less mess. Just save your money and get the link!

but yeah if youre wiring multiple gauges, defi link + bf's are cake, just daisy chain that shit, so easy!

Greddy and Defi use the same damn sensors too I SWEAR.

It's just that I run like 10 billion gauges cause i'm a ricer.

Heard numerous horror stories about Greddy electronics. And these are all from people that I know, and I've personally seen the units of interest. And yup, they weren't lying, they didn't work.

I had a Defi D-gauge water temp sensor, thing was awesome. Looked nice, and worked awesome. Until someone stole it.

Now I have Autometer Phantom series gauges. They'll work for now. I'm not too worried about it, at this time.

Yeah i did have an autometer phatom series water temp. Never gave me any problems im looking at some defi gauges though.

i think i'm going to go with the Omori 52mm electrical boost and oil pressure gauges....no daisy chain...but shouldn't be that bad wiring.

anyone have experience with the Omori's???

Also, I'd run the Saga's, but I need something at least 60mm if not 52mm. We'll see I guess. I really want to move my ac/heater controls down below the head unit and put my gauges up there. I can't do away with my center vents, that's the only vent I get any decent airflow from. And I don't want them below the head unit, cause that's too far down to be looking all the time. I don't want them on the pillar, cause that's just tacky (IN MY OPINION). Only option is to move ac controls, or put them on the dash, and I don't know if my balls are big enough for that yet...lol.

Dash mounted gauges are where it's at guys! haha

I don't believe in mounting gauges anywhere other than the A-Pillar, on the dash, or in the cluster where your stock gauges are. The reason I say this is because gauges are there for PREVENTATIVE WARNING! What good is it going to do if your boost gauge is down in the ash try? You're not going to ever be able to see it while racing. Some gauges, like Fuel Pressure, where you only need them for specific times (setting FPR) are an exception of course.

Seriously, anyone ever heard of Circuit Sports?? I'd like to know how the quality compares to Defi. Also, for anyone other than Ian... How about quality of Saga compared to Defi? Anyone used them? [Bumping old-ass thread] Soooo, anyone have some reviews of Saga gauges? I'm thinking about picking some up if they are any good, otherwise I'll pony up for the Defi's. I use to have an autometer mechanical boost gauge on my old car. The needle was never centered on the zero when the car was off. I have a greddy mechanical boost gauge on my current car and the needle is still a bit off and often changes by a slight bit so
