s14 oppinions on tire sizes for 16x8 wheels..s14

What would be a good looking tire size for 16x8 wheels with a 36 offset. S14 (zenki) they're going on will have espelir asd springs and probably agx's. Stock brakes btw.

Drop from the espelir springs seem like they're gonna bet similar to tein s-techs. That's just judging from teins and espelirs measurements.

Just trying to fill whatever wheel gap is left over after the drop..without having monster truck tires and bulging sidewalls

Seen a s14 in modified mag with 16x8 32 offset wheels. It has 225/50/16 tires..but the sidewalls bulge a lil too much for my taste, and I would prefer just a slightly shorter height too.

Whatever suggestion you all can give would be much appreciated. First time dealing with aftermarket suspension and wheels.

16s are gonna need some sidewall. They're small. 36 offset sucks. Even with stock fenders, get extended studs and some 15mm spacers in there, then run a 205 or 215 up front and a 225 or 235 in the back. Eh, stretch might look gay with a 50 series sidewall. Sorry man, hard to make it look cool unless you're slammed (which you're not, sittin on springs instead of coilovers).

Yeah I mean I knew what I was getting into with the offset and all when I got em. I could really carless if they're supper flush or not. All I know is to me for the price it was a good deal, and I really liked the wheels. Anything beats curbbed hubcaps. But I know what your saying.

I might do spacers at another time, but for right now what would you go with as far as tire size? Also meant to add all 4 wheels are 16x8. I agree with you thoug...they will need some sidewall.

I'm not exactly the tire expert..but I just don't want the side walls bulging to much past the lip on the wheels. Don't want em stretch, don't want them bulging. Just pretty much as close to being inline with the lips as possible.

8in*25mm/in=200mm or so +1/2" lip and you're around 215mm.
215/50/16? sounds about right?

GSXRJJordan is right on the money with fitments than.

Alright kool...thanks! I'm gonna try 215 I guess. I was afraid anything lower would be stretching, but I also knew the 225 was a lil too bulged for me. So looking at tire sizes in a tirerack ad in the same modified magazine, the only other option seems to be 215.

So 215/50/16

215/50/16 is not a freeway friendly tire on coil overs. (like 110+).

16's, are not that cool. No more sizes. Its sucks.

Okay what do you suggest. Let's get pass the fact 16's are not the norm... I'm not trying to fit in with the in crowd or anything. Didn't really expect peoples jaws to drop when they see my car. Too be perfectly honest I happen to like the oem 16's that come on se's only problem is my car isn't an se, and the se's are a lil plain unless painted.

Not getting mad with anybody, but all I need are tire sizes, not oppinions on wheel sizes. I made the choice, I'll be the one to live with it.

Also btw...I don't have coilovers. Why do you say it's not a freeway friendly tire...are you suggesting I should just do the 225 anyway.

my 17x8 +21 w/ 225/40/17 could be moved out slightly, but not much at all, so I second getting some 15mm or 20mm spacers for your wheels. (this is in the front)

225 tires fit exactly how a tires is SUPPOSED to fit. So you could go 215, or if you go 205 you'll get some stretch action.

as for sidewall, im guessing you'd need a 50 sidewall, but use an online calculator to figure out what you need.

Well, Im not trying to dis your wheels, not at all. I like 16's I have rocked lots of 16's. I am saying it sucks because good sizes are drying up.

225/50/16 Was my favorite size, Even on a x7 or x7.5 so for x8 you should be cool. It has enough sidewall that it will make for a great DD tire.
My DD with 16x7 225/50/16


Its difficult to really get a cool aggressive stretch look on the 16 just because of the TOTAL diameter of the rolling circle when using the 16.

You also want to make sure you find a 225/50/16 in a tire that has a "small frame".

That means go to tire shops, look at the tires side by side, some of the "frames" of the sidewall on some are larger/smaller than others.

If you want my "seal of approval recomendation",
Dunlop Direzza DZ101 Sticky as Hell, Small sidewall frame, inexpensive as hell, great tire!

Yeah I mean I din't think you were trying to dis em. I just know everyone here is big o flushness and filling the wheel wells. I mean I am too. Just these weren't expensive and I just really liked em.

Only thing about that is what happens when you rotate tires? Sounds nice, but I'm not staggered, so I don't know if it's worth it when I could rotate with all 4 tires the same size.

I say just rock the 225/50 all around so youll atleast have the option to rotate tires. I think that should look pretty decent on the rim plus thats pretty much on the money as far as stock wheel diameter...

Oh yeah something else I forgot to mention...I kinda plan on keeping the car slightly stock looking...only thing that gives it away now is decals...but whatever. Cops don't hassle me as it is, so kinda like to keep it that way. One guy I know with an s13 said he could have gotten a ticket for suspesnion cause he's slammed. And his wheels FLUSH!

At first I didn't care about but I started seeing friends...not just 240 owners getting tickets for their mods, and just felt it wasn't worth going over the top. Cause after so many tickets for the same thing, to me it's not worth it. So I'm trying to find the loopholes here and there

As sad as it is, how often would you ever hit 100mph on your car? And no, thats not a low-blow, thats me saying it as a Realist. If your worried about getting pegged for having a lowered car, I can imagine your mind frame about speeding that fast and getting pulled over for it...stick with the 225/50 since if you go 215, you will have more wheel gap since the diameter is smaller than going 225.

Its not the 215 its the 50 or less sidewall. Once you hit 225/50 seems to be the magic sidewall combo.

As far as going over 100. I can be an ahole at times, and feel the need to pass on onramps and fwy connectors at idiotic speeds... well at least i used to, now that i am rolling the ka with stockies, I dont think i've gone over 75 for quite a while.

I mean I've done a 100+ but no thats not constant thing, I don't think for anybody it is. If it is they must get great gas mileage and are the luckiest person in the world when it comes to tickets.

I mean I'm not paranoid when it comes to cops or anything. I'd rather more or less bend the rules then break them. Thats with everything from window tint, to bulbs, exhaust...etc. Everything I'm pretty much borderline as it is with those things. I try not to cross that line, I don't feel like givin my money away on tickets. Where I'm from when cops pull you over enough, you become a target everytime you go out.

One more question anyone think I will have a problem running 225/50/16 on 16x8 wheels with 36 offset, with agx struts. I know coilovers are usually thicker. Just wondering if it will rub?

it seems like you've made up your mind but i'll add a little to the discussion. i also have 16x8s on my s14 (mine are +30 but close enough) i had 225/45/16 and didn't like them too much, the side wall was too short and it looked goofy. i upgraded to 225/50/16 615 Azenis and i'm glad i did. the tires fill the wheel well better and they are stock diameter so it doesn't jack with the acceleration or speedo. the sidewall is still just a little bit stretched so i think you'll be happy there.

as for the strut clearance, as long as the wheels fit you should be good. mine fit with AGXs just fine and they clear the coilovers too so you'll be fine.

here's a pic where you can kinda see the sidewall. i can take better ones if you really care.

Off hand I dont know about the +36, but you can always get a spacer because you have pudding proof that +30 works.

Oh yeah there's and older guy in my town that has a kouki, and he use to work right across from my old job. Well I saw his car today. He has that are 5 spoke like mine, but I like mine better. Can't tell whether their 15's or 16's but look pretty good, but I think I'll like mine better. His aren't flush or anything. Not like he would care anyway lol. Plus my car will be slightly lower than his with springs.

glad i could help. just i small point i should make, the front wheel is turned slightly to the right so it looks like there's a little more wheel gap than there is. plus i have mildly aggressive camber (2.5 front, 1.5 rear); without camber plates, the front will look more flush.

the strut clearance was a little tight but i'm pretty sure there was 6mm of room. if not, like johngriff said, a 5 mm spacer is a piece of cake, and pretty cheap.

205/50-16 front, 225/45-16 rear. Thats what I ran on my BBS's back in the day. Looked great but they were 7.5 front 8.5 rear +14 offset. Run a slightly smaller sidewall than stock though they look good, just lower the car more down the road. Get some cheap coilovers.

Hey guys I just got back from talking to the older guy with the kouki I mentioned earlier. His wheels are 16's. He seemed unsure when I asked at first so we wne outside to look at his tires. Visually I expected them to be. Was gonna ask him the width, but since he was unsure on the height, I figured he prolly wouldn't know. But his tires are 205..atleast I know the fronts are but the rears look to be the same.

So I'm guessing his wheels to be 7 or 7.5 inches wide. So I'm assuming my wheels should be closer to being flush than his. I doubt his offset is any more aggressive than mine, since he got the wheels at sears.

Anyway they look good....even at stock height. I just can't wait to get mine on with springs.
