no im not trying to get people to think im a adult i can give 2 sh*it of what people think..
what i mean by "adult" car is a car that is well put together, that is quick comfortable, reliable, and fun all in one package that doesnt scream "hey look at me".. i also dont want another project car as of right now because i plan on coming back to the s14 withing 1-2years, i just need a fun reliable car to get be around as i wont have time in the upcoming months to work on a project.. before this happened i was planning to pull the s14 off the road for about a year and build my motor and change my turbo setup as i wouldnt have time to drive the car as much.. i also live in nyc so i need some thing practical the roads here suck ass, people cant drive for shit, and the weather is predictable as the stock market.. by no means did i look into a bmw for the stigma of owning one.. it just fit my criteria for what i was looking for in another car.. some good suggestions here i think i need to look into the cts-v and the 335i new choices are : 350z 06 or newer e46 m3 03-05 335i 07 g35 4dr 07 im just looking for whats going to be a better buy with mileage/age/maintaince/fun//

First gen cts-v's seem like a good choice. I was thinking about looking into one, but just like all other cts's in those years is the interior is fuckin cheap. Plastic dash, door panels center console all feel like it came out of a $15k car. And for me i just cant get over that. Its something that REALLY turns me off about em. But im sure its fun as shit to drive, but for a car thats $50k msrp when it was new i dont want a cobalt interior.

sorry to raise this thread from the dead..
BUT i cant find a 335i 4dr that i want.. (almost impossible to find one that's 6mt and has sport package with ~50k for under 24g..) so im really considering the 350z. It just seems so impractical for a daily tho.. The weather is getting crapper here in the winter, we almost had 40" of snow this winter.. my Z would probably be useless in the winter.. can some one with a Z chime and tell me how good of a car this is for daily use? I dont have a family to lug around so im not worried about bringing people all over with me.. my main concern is to have a well put together fun quick car for now until i can build another s14. i have ruled out all the other cars i was considering so its basically between the 350z and 335i 4d, and possible a e46 m3 but i cant find one with low enough millage.. for the money i rather get a 335i thanks

why not get a Z, and then just get a $1500 daily beater to drive in the winter months? a stock 240 isn't bad, or a civic or what ever you want.

Leaky Injector

350z has a harsh ride and is useless for winter. It's still a attention getter and a head turner. I'm just going to focus on suspension/wheels on the 350z because getting power out of a 350z is just way to expensive. 335i don't they have major turbo problems when they go your screwed out of 5k+. No one is giving a M3 for cheap but if you can find a good deal get one.

The only problem with the m3 is the maintenance cost. Uuber high as my family owns one of each of the body styles from the 90 widebody to the e36, 46 and 92. The current is the most problematic one as is the 335s. But the older ones are a little bit better. Buy it stock and CPO from bmw with an extended warranty or you wont beable to afford to own it with a 25k price cap on financing. You know the saying, if you dont qualify to purchase the cat new you definately shouldnt buy it used and out of warranty. Bmws and mercedes are all built as throw away lease cars. Electrical nightmares with either brand. But my brother loves them and buys them all the day they come out.
Oil change for e46 is 90 weight oil due to shitty crank design btw. For a daily my choices would be an Evo, g37c, rx8, GTO 6.0, base c6 vette for sporty cars all under 25k and cheap to maintain. A corvette is a hell of alot faster and cheaper to own than an m3 or a 350z. Speaking from experience here...

yea i know the m3 is costly to maintain..
honestly the 335i looks like the best option ive been reading up on these cars. From what ive read and i know a few people who own these cars for over 4+yr no real problems, their is a recall for the fuel pump and injectors but its cover parts + installations. the Z is very impractical for a daily i know, but i miss having a car that is low and stanced. i would get a g35 4dr, but i dont know its a dime a dozen car and if i am buying a newer car then i want some thing well put togther. Also i dont want to get distracted from a s14, i feel like if i get the z ill stray off and start going balls out with it and get disctacted from getting a z.. idk still confused sucks.. wish i just had my old s14 ..

I know you mentioned RWD only, but you should seriously consider a 07 G35x. It's far from impractical and great during the winter. It's not going to be an arm and a leg to maintain...you should test drive one.

Stay far away from the 335i. HPFP failures in the thousands have made this car depriciate to its current situation.. I had a brand new one die on me during a test drive... sad to say I didnt by one... still loved it though.. but I wont put my family in a car I dont trust will get them home 2007 BMW 335I Fuel System Complaints stick to a z33... cheap to maintain and fun stock. Trust me stick with the rule of if you cant afford it new dont buy it....

if you want a 335i, then why not look at competitor products?
g35/37 c-classssss a4 they can all be had for your budget. drive them all and if you decide they don't do it for you, then revisit the Z idea. |

If you want a Z, why not go for the 370? You can find them for $25k.

BUY A FD RX7! Rotaries are really easy engines to fix and maintain. It is also a lot cheaper to build a high hp engine compared to a piston. All you have to do to the engine is get really strong apex seals, upgrade the fuel system, get a REALLY GOOD TUNE... etc etc then boost the triangle. If you really have money get a 20b =] Trust me once you drive a non piston car youll be addicted.

What you are talking about above is a fun car. An expensive fun car. One that should not be considered as ones primary car. I do not expect you to understand this as you are only 19. He is an adult that already has a weekend car which is why he is looking for a nice , I don't need to fuck with it daily. A FD RX7 at this time does not fall into that category. Great cars, totally dope. Not for use as a practical daily. OP Go with the Z33, very good cars, more reliable than some people would have you believe. Only people having real problems, are the ones that trash the shit out of them.

the hpfp issue has been resolved with an updated fuel pump from bmw and is under recall. also fuel pumps are warranted for 10yrs because of this problem, also injectors are under the same recall/warranty. i would want to get one with some warranty upon purchase.. ive seen a e90 m3 the other night at the hookah lounge..ugh soo boss.. e90 stance with flush rims and lip = boss the z seems like more of a kids car but i can get over how nice the shape of it is. i really am attracted to low sleek body lines and big arses lol i will test drive the z and 335i this weekend to see what i would like better.. i know ill probably lean towards the z because its closer to what my s14 was just alot slower.. as for the a4- not really feeling audi and the 4cyld 2.0t motor, and the c-class or what ever i dont like the styling of the car. i was considering something completely different and cool a Pontiac g8 but i cant find a manual i hear its super hard to find.. but a 4dr vette would be awesome..

I just bought an 07 grand touring Z33 and I love it. Having driven quite a few E46 M3's, 335i's, and even 135i's, its safe to say the Z is the best bang for the buck. I suggest that if you get a Z, get the 07+ with the VQ35HR. Unless you're planning to go boosted, the VQ35DE's will gain very little from bolt ons in terms of N/A, and the same can be said for the VQ35HR, and the E46 M3.
Obviously the 335i and the 135i have more potential in terms of minimal mods. With a chip, tune, and a few bolt ons, both cars will be plenty fast. However, you're not going to find either one of them in the Z's price range. With that said, all the bimmers have rear seats. Nonetheless, all 4 of the cars are amazing in their own ways, with the 135 and the Z being the top 2 for my pick in terms of stock for stock. I am not fond of the 135i's appearance though, but the damn car is amazingly fun straight from the factory. In conclusion, I love my Z.. It is an 07 with 29k miles, and I got it for $20k. It is a bit spendy compared to the base and older models, however mine is fully loaded with nav brembos, rays forged wheels, heated seats, yada yada yada. It handles amazing compared to my old S13. The speed sensitive steering is phenomenal. The newer VQ35HR is very smooth and picks up really nicely. Very very similar and comparable to E46 M3's. I hope this helps you a little.

I was in the same boat as you almost 2 years ago. I was looking at all the same cars you listed plus an STI for winter fun. I ended up going with a 08 350z enthusiest and to this day I still love it and I dont plan on getting rid of it any time soon. I picked it up at the time for $22k brandy new and I just couldnt pass up that deal! The car is terrible for this time of year but like others have said get a beater or car pool with some work buddies or even public transportation if thats an option for you. But for the other 8 months of the year the car is a blast! Also the newer HR engine is a must!
