I left a little bit of the original metal vertical from the frame rail for me to weld to (About 2 inches). I also used 1.2mm sheet metal which is a little thicker than original. Littel bit of a bitch to work with but it is sturdy. Make sure you leve some tabs of stock metal to weld to all the way around. The fab thread in the tech section answered my questions with a shit load of pictures and how to's so you should look int hat thread before you do too much.
